Truth and Reconciliation

My Journey Towards Truth and Reconciliation In the video "Our 7 Ojibway Teachings," the focus is on seven key values—respect, love, honesty, humility, wisdom, truth, and bravery—that are central to Ojibway culture and spirituality. These teachings are essential for understanding how reconciliation can be fostered, not just in education but also in all aspects of life. They are an invitation to move beyond mere tolerance of difference to embrace the interconnectedness of all people and the world. These values emphasize relationships: with oneself, with others, and with the land. The Teachers in My Life

The Teachers in My Life I come from a family of educators and have had the privilege of hearing about both the rewarding moments and the challenges of teaching. I wouldn’t have discovered my calling without the inspiration of these two incredible individuals in my life. The man on the left is my grandfather, Gene, and the man on the right is my father, Sean. Gene was a high school chemistry teacher, and my childhood was filled with stories from his years in the classroom. Even after retiring, his passion for teaching continued as he became an accomplished curling coach. His achievements include coaching at two Olympic Games, a testament to his dedication and expertise. My dad taught middle school, and I have fond memories of visiting him in his classroom. I always dreamed of being one of his students, but unfortunately, he left the profession before I had the chance. His unwavering support and guidance have inspired me to chase my passions and pursue a career in teaching.

Who Am I?

Who Am I? Hi, my name is Karla Friesen. I grew up in Biggar, SK, before moving to the "big" city of Regina. Growing up, I enjoyed a variety of activities, including curling, football, dancing, and playing musical instruments. I have a deep love for travel and was fortunate to live in Bonn, Germany, for a year, exploring much of Europe and Asia along the way.      While it took me some time to discover my educational path, I’ve found my passion in teaching. I am excited to inspire and make a positive impact on my future students.
